"Skallberry" |
The Skull motif has infiltrated *everywhere* lately. It started out mainly on boys' or adults' clothing in the usual biker designs... then it made it's way to young boys' t-shirts and jackets... then it migrated to girls' shirts and such, where the skulls began appearing with stars and hearts for eyes... This year, they've gone totally cute--hearts for eyes, pink sparkles, mixed with strawberries. On panties, no less. Srsly. ;-)
Akshully, the combination kinda works. Not sure I'd want it on me undies, mind…
ReplyDeleteLOL: captcha code, "strawls."
I wish I could say this craziness surprises me but these were on Sage's Christmas list last year. I blame the goth lolita movement.
ReplyDeleteI *love* skulls. Like, seriously. Last year, I jumped up and down in excitement when I found a tiny little skull in a hedgerow (from a hedgehog, nonetheless!). Brought it home, bleached it, and placed it on my mantelpiece. And I love it! OuO So, if I had a daughter, I would totally get those for her. Just to make sure the love of skulls stayed alive. (Pun intended!)
ReplyDeleteDaz--funneh:-) What do you mean, you don't want cute skulls on your undies??
ReplyDeleteAlice--Skelanimals? New to me--they look like X-Ray Kitty-chan to me:-) So, apparently, this is a world-wide movement...
Josephine-- a real one? You found a real one, and figured out what it was? Cool! I'd be all excited if I found a real one, too! (Not that I'd know what it was... I'm sure the housework would suffer tremendously, too, while trying to figure out;-) And... seriously good/bad pun:-))!
Skelanimals are owned by a toy company named Toynami. Toynami mostly specializes in anime plush and toys, so I'm gonna have to say that cute skeletons/skulls started in the older kids set, and is part of the growing "Cute-ification" movement, which I'd bet money originated in Japan.
ReplyDeleteToynami? That sounds somehow very familiar... wait. There's a Japanese toy company called Takara Tomi, another called Konami, and there was a production group called Toonami that put all kinds of anime on Cartoon Network--maybe from them?
ReplyDeleteThey can even make the macabre cute. I wonder if there will be Japanese heavy metal bands with skulls and strawberries.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, a real skull! I did struggle a bit with identifying it though, but the lack of incisors were a give-away. I could see on the teeth it was an insectivore, and simply looked at pictures of common insectivores without incisors. And voilá, a hedgehog it was!
ReplyDelete(Here's a picture, where you can see the snout make a cameo to the left: http://www.flickr.com/photos/forgottengenius/5274550836/in/set-72157612252346691 )
Jerry-- see! Just about anything can be subjected to cutification...
ReplyDeleteJosephine--excellent sleuthing! And what a great photo!
ReplyDelete@ Jerry
ReplyDelete'Skulls And Strawberries.' Great band name! Sort of indie folk-rock, I'd imagine.
@Amy
Well I s'pose 'twould kind of go with the teddy bear tattoo on me chest. [Several of us got 'em. Never ever get tatted whilst on a weekend drinking spree. :-)]
Now, I'd never have imagined a teddy bear tattoo for you Daz.
ReplyDeleteSomething from a Pratchett novel, maybe.
A teddy bear blows my mind.
A teddy bear tattoo?? I don't suppose there's any photographic evidence of that...;-)
ReplyDeleteA Teddy bear tattoo, Daz. I, too, would like to see the photographic proof of that particular drinking scar. I'd also have to agree that a weekend drinking spree is not the best time to think about getting permanently marked but alas, it is also when your good judgement is at it's lowest ebb. Those weekends are always a bit of a catch-22.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of things that while sober I'd have classified as "don't do while drunk" items. Never-the-less, these very same activities became more brilliant sounding with each beer until they became (very temporarily) the best idea I have ever had.
Thankfully, I have grown out of most of that. On a related note, have you ever noticed that maturity has the general symptoms as being too damned tired?
As for the "Skulls and Strawberries" musical group, I keep envisioning an all female, Japanese heavy metal band dressed in pink leather and spikes doing Motley Crue covers... Um yeah... I don't know why that popped into my head either... But I'm curiously aroused.
Hi, KK! Hope you've got some down time:-)) "Skulls and Strawberries"? Definitely all-girl, probably two dozen of them, mostly high-school age... (AKB48?) Aaack--don't give them any ideas!
ReplyDeleteTired? I'm not tir....(zzzz)
Yoiks! And even gadzooks!
ReplyDeleteNever tell a bunch of atheists anything. The sceptical sods'll want 'evidence'! I have faith in my tattoo. Faith, I tell you!
Next time I'm at my sister's place, I'll get her to dust off the camera and take some pictures of my oh so manly chest. I warn you though, middle age has not been kind to me...
KK: Yep, 'wisdom' is definitely very much the same as 'too tired to get all fired up about [whatever].'
BTW, when I skimmed the page, KK's comment went from "A Teddy bear tattoo, Daz." to "But I'm curiously aroused."
ReplyDeleteThis was worrying...
Sorry to disappoint Daz, but I'll have to save that arousal for after I see your manly teddy bear tattoo. I look forward to the experience.
