When boys are 5 years old, and girls are 7 and 3 years old, you dress them up in adorable kimono, take them to the shrine to pray for their continued health, then get a photo taken. Cutest.Thing.Ever! Here are my three when Koshi was 7 (first grade), Teddy was 5 (Nencho), and Cici was 3 (Nensho):

Erm, wasn't this an article about a Kitty Chan cake just now? *confuddled*
ReplyDeleteMind, the cute in this one is much more likeable.
Ooops--weren't supposed to see that yet (whistling)... Changed my mind suddenly when I remembered what day it is (it's Monday, Nov 15, here:)). So I thought I'd put my kiddos up. Sorry about the confuddling! Gomen nasai!
ReplyDeleteAWWWW! So Cute! And that's pretty conveniant that your kids were 7, 5,and 3 in age at the same time.
ReplyDeleteConvenient (except for Koshi not being a girl--oh well! They were cute anyway:))
ReplyDeleteAwww! Kawaii desu nee! I love your daughter's hair-color by the way!
ReplyDelete7-5-3 was today?? A group of girls from Tokyo University gave us a presentation on this holiday in english (although I couldn't really understand them). Sometimes I get this confused with Kodomono-hi (children's day...I think). Wait is 7-5-3 children's day? *confused* >_<
I'm going to a festival at a local Japanese Women's University next week. It looks like it'll be fun. Oh, and my homework for today was to make a event poster in Japanese. I had to look up over a million words just to make it, lol. And I drew this really pretty picture of a girl holding a book. :)
Hope your week is going well,
~Ezzy
Hi, Ez! Arigatou!:)) Cici somehow got the blond hair (from my grandma, I think)--lots of double-takes when she and Papa are out together(his hair is black as can be--so pretty, and none of the kids got his hair. Shoot!)
ReplyDeleteKodomonohi is May 5th, so you're right--it's a different holiday. Kodomonohi is the one with the carp streamers and the samurai helmets out for boys. 7-5-3 is Nov 15th, and it's basically just a day to go to the shrine to pray for your child's continued health, and to get dressed up CUTE and take pictures:)) Then there's Hinamatsuri in March (3/3)--the Doll's Festival (mostly for girls). This is the Land of Festivals--there's practically one a month! Tell me what all you do at the festival next week--sounds fun! Ez-san no posuta mitai, na! Gambarimashita, ne!
